yarn and coffee – just a couple of my obsessions

a little something for myself

i was finished with what Christmas knitting i could finish. and almost all of it on time…

jeffy (pronounced hey-fey) and scott were in town – a couple of our nyc honorary ohisians – and stina was coming to play. jeff really liked some of the knitting he was seeing (particularly the manly wristwarmers) and requested a navy blue pair. i said… well, you know what we can do saturday?? we will shop for YARN!! and you can pick out your own. bwaaaaahahaha

now, stina’s a new knitter… but a fearless knitter. a girl after my own heart. she doesn’t want to just knit a bunch of plain ole scarves… she wants to dive in and do stuff that’s impressive!! so anyway, she was up for the yarn store, too!
so we hit ihop. mmmm. then we go to fiberworks, the local yarn shop (lys) that’s closest to my house. and by closest, i mean i could walk there and it’s on my way home from work, every. day. dangerous.
so jeff picks out what he likes and i grab some red to make some cchs scarlet/grey wristwarmers for cousin michael (on commission, he promised me $10! ha!) and throw in some orange to complete my brother-in-law’s set (he’s already received a hat and a scarf, so far).

i check out. and i notice they had a free pattern at the counter, for the cute little red had with a button that’s been at the counter for the last month or so (’cause i’d been in at least once a week for the last 6 weeks, of course). we inquired as to where we’d find the yarn, were directed to it, loved the colors and loved the price and stina and i each bought the suggested yarn and i got one of their fun buttons. i’m not kidding when i say i had it done in two hours!!

i love this thing… and here’s an even funnier part of the story… it was created to resemble a hat someone on staff at the lys had seen at banana republic. well, when stina got back to nyc, she sent me a link she ran across when surfing the sale stuff at their website. it was the hat! and i can’t even explain how closely they really match!! even on sale it was still $32.99 at the time and i made it for less than $10 and in less than two hours!

i. love. it.

love and new horizons,

Great hat! Do you know if the pattern is available elsewhere, or can you share the contact info for your LYS. I would love to make one.
