look travis!

eric has socks!

forgive all the rest of the stuff in the pic, he’s not all about the modeling and it was darn hot out wednesday evening, so this is the pic we get for now. ;)

what else have i been up to, you ask?

well, some slittens for some manly friends who had birthdays in the last week. this maize pair for a friend who’s a fan of UofM and a green pair for a friend who’s a fan of Michigan State (they still need thumbs so i don’t have a pic):

these are based upon the peekaboo mitts pattern by pensive frog that were published in magknits. i used lamb’s pride bulky and 10 1/2 needles and started with 30 stitches on each, but even these two pairs aren’t quite the same as these two guys are different. if you’d like my suggestions or the final measurements i’ll share, but all real credit goes to the lady who originated the pattern. i freakin’ love those things!

i also have cranked out the candy corn hats galore. including this one, a tiny cousin of the baby size… elaine is due in less than two weeks and when i made the baby one for her i knew it would be way too big on a month old baby’s head… so i worked it with the same amount of stitches around, but only did 8 rows of ribbing, with three straight rows of yellow after, then switched to orange, did one straight row and then started the decreases. after the first decreases start, it’s the same as the baby size instructions. :D

we had a little shower for her at knit night on tuesday. she was surprised and showered with yarn-y goodness in gift certificate form and in lovely little knitted things form. :D yay baby!

last weekend i did not hole up and watch friday night lights all day every day, as i’d mentioned were my plans… (are you happy now, other karen?? ;) ) the nephews were in town so there was lots of pirate talk and play (including some sidewalk chalk drawings that you can see at my flickr) and there was a visit to the butterfly house. other evening festivities for various birthday celebrations with the crew and there was only time to watch the “making of” featurette and the first three episodes.

speaking of birthdays, i can’t show off the one thing that’s on the needles, ’cause it’s almost done, but it’s a gift, and other than that i’m seriously down to just two pairs of socks in the active WIP category. well, and the match to the first test knit sock from cat bordhi’s new book. i made the first last night.

i have lots of things in the queue, though, and some Christmas gifts i could get the jump on. we’ll see what jumps on the needles first, this weekend!
also bunches of new yarn. like you thought i would really stick to that cut-back after stitches. ;) ha!

i’ll try to post more than weekly… perhaps over the weekend??

I’ve decided that the baby corn hat size is just fine….I hate weaving in loose ends by the way!

Hooray! I’m glad you like the Peekaboo Mittens pattern – yours look great, and I dig the yellow-orange color. I also love that little candy corn hat – I made an adult-sized one a few years ago, but I didn’t look at actual candy corn for guidance, and thus got the colors in the wrong order. How embarrassing!

Would love to know your modifications for the peekaboo mitts in bulky wool. I’m about to embark on that myself!

    Thanks!
